Wood cockroaches (Nauphoeta cinerea)
Woodies are hardy, easy-to-keep feeder insects packed with protein and ideal for a range of insectivorous pets. With minimal effort, you can keep them thriving until mealtime.
Housing
-
Keep them in a well-ventilated plastic tub with a secure lid.
-
Use egg cartons or cardboard stacked vertically to increase surface area and give them places to hide.
-
Avoid glass enclosures—woodies can climb smooth surfaces. You can use Fluon to stop them climbing out.
Temperature
-
Maintain at 24–30°C for optimal activity.
-
Use a heat mat or lamp if necessary (outside the container).
-
They slow down in cool temps but stay alive.
? Feeding & Hydration
-
Provide fresh veggies or fruit (carrot, apple, leafy greens).
- InsectaSip is a easy way to provide hydration.
-
Use dry food like Bug boost as a base diet.
-
Replace uneaten moist food regularly to prevent mould.
? Clean-Up
-
Spot-clean every few days.
-
Remove old food, dead insects, and excess frass to keep the colony healthy.
