BioSupplies BSF Larvae Care Sheet
Low maintenance, calcium-rich, and ready to feed
Meet Your BSF Larvae (a.k.a. Calci Worms)
These little legends are one of the best feeders you can offer — naturally high in calcium and super easy to keep.
Good news:
They don’t need much… just don’t overdo it
Step 1: Keep Them in Their Container
No need to move them!
✅ Keep them in their original container
✅ Make sure it has airflow (don’t seal tight)
✅ Store in a cool, shaded spot
Less handling = happier larvae
Step 2: Temperature Matters
BSF larvae behave differently depending on temperature:
Cooler (10–18°C):
- Slows them down
- Makes them last longer
Warmer (20–28°C):
- More active
- Faster growth (and quicker to turn into flies)
Want them to last? Keep them cool
Want them active? Warm them up slightly
Step 3: Feeding (Optional)
BSF larvae usually arrive ready to go
If needed, you can offer:
- Carrot
- Veg scraps
Tip:
Don’t overfeed — they don’t need much
Step 4: Moisture Control
This is where most people go wrong ?
Keep substrate slightly dry to lightly moist
Avoid excess moisture (leads to smell + die-off)
If it’s wet and soggy… it’s too much
Step 5: Don’t Be Alarmed by Colour Changes
You might notice them turning darker
Cream → Brown → Black
This is totally normal — it means they’re getting ready to pupate (turn into flies)
Still perfectly fine to feed at any stage
Feeding Time Tips
- Great for reptiles, birds, and fish
- No need for calcium dusting (they’re already loaded)
- Can be fed in a bowl (they don’t escape easily)
Bonus:
They wiggle like crazy — great feeding response!
