Superworms (Zophobas morio) are a high-protein feeder insect loved by reptiles, amphibians, birds, and even some mammals. With the right care, they’ll stay healthy and active until feeding time.
Housing
-
Keep superworms in a smooth-sided container (plastic tubs work great).
-
Use a 5–10 cm layer of bran, oats, or wheat germ as both bedding and food.
-
Add pieces of egg carton or cardboard for hiding.
Temperature
-
Store at 18–25°C (room temperature).
-
Do not refrigerate—unlike mealworms, superworms will die in the cold.
Feeding & Hydration
-
Provide moisture with small pieces of carrot, apple, or sweet potato.
-
Replace moist food every couple of days to prevent mould.
-
Top up dry bedding/food as needed.
Clean-Up
-
Remove dead worms or pupae.
-
Sift out frass (waste) every few weeks to keep the colony fresh.
