BioSupplies Mealworm Care Sheet
Easy to store, long-lasting, and ready when you are
Meet Your Mealworms
Mealworms are one of the easiest feeders to keep — especially because you can slow them right down.
Think of them as the “keep in the fridge and grab when needed” option
Step 1: Keep Them in A Container
Good news — minimal setup needed:
Keep them in a plastic ventilated container
Leave them in bran/oat bedding
Make sure there’s some airflow
No need to move them unless you want to upgrade their setup to something larger
Step 2: Refrigeration = Longer Life
This is where mealworms shine
Store at: 5–10°C (fridge)
✔ Slows them down
✔ Keeps them fresh for longer
Take out what you need, then return the rest to the fridge
Step 3: Feed Them (Optional but Helpful)
Mealworms don’t need much, but a little food helps:
- Carrot (best option)
- Potato
- Leafy greens
Tip:
Leave them out of the fridge for a couple of hours to warm up before feeding
Use small amounts — too much = moisture problems
Step 4: Hydration
They get moisture from their food:
Add small pieces of veg
Avoid water bowls
Too much moisture = mould risk
Step 5: Avoid These Common Mistakes
Too much moisture
Leaving food in too long
Sealing container airtight
Keeping them too warm (they’ll turn into beetles faster)
Quick tip:
Fridge = slow and steady
Room temp = fast and active
Step 6: Keep It Clean
- Remove old food regularly
- Keep bedding dry
- Top up bran/oats if needed
Clean worms last longer and smell less
Feeding Time Tips
- Great for reptiles, birds, fish, and chickens
- Feed appropriate size
- Dust with calcium if needed
Bonus:
Easy to handle and store — perfect everyday feeder
