12 pack Black Silkworms
Black Silkworms are a colour variant of regular Silkworms.
Silkworm care
Silkworms are the larva of a moth (Bombyx mori) that spins a cocoon of silk. Silkworms will not bite and offer good nutritional value as a feeder insect for reptiles, fish, amphibians and birds.
They have a life-cycle of 55-60 days and as they mature will eat A LOT and need a constant supply of food. Our silks are raised on silkworm chow which not only makes them available all year round but is very convenient. No more searching the neighbourhood for mulberry trees!
They like to be kept around 23c and should be kept clean at all times. Remove their waste regularly and always wash your hands before you handle them or their food.
They are a great food and can be fed often. They are high in protein and their squishy bodies are palatable and easy to digest.
Silks are also a great way to introduce kids to the circle of life as they are easy to pupate and grow out. They can reach maturity from a hatchling in approx 29 days.
